Thrift store finds and farmer’s market!

30 Jul

It’s been a busy past two days, and I’ve got loads of homework to do, so this will be a short post. Yesterday we went to the thrift store, which was AWESOME as always!

When we arrived, these hobos were wandering around the parking lot… in the middle of the aisle, the one we were driving down… they wouldn’t move, so we actually had to back up to go around them. I have to say, it was definitely annoying and weird, and after talking up the thrift store to Blake, his reaction was a little like “WTF?? Where are you taking me?” Continue reading

Spotify is here!

29 Jul

I finally got my invitation to join Spotify last night, and I was so excited!! If it hadn’t been 1 in the morning, I would have signed up right away and started listening to tunes, but alas it was late, so I waited until this morning!

Before I get too ahead of myself, let me explain Spotify and how it works. Continue reading

Picnic in the park!

29 Jul

Today my boyfriend, Blake, and I decided to go to the park for a picnic. Yum! I didn’t get to take any photos of our food, but we made grilled cheese, brought strawberries, oatmeal cookies, and hummus and crackers. So good!

We went to Washington Park, known in Denver as ‘Wash Park’, which is a really nice park with a HUGE lake. It also has a super cute flower garden!

Marigolds! We think...

Food Review: Candle Cafe Seitan Picatta with Lemon Caper Sauce

26 Jul

Finally, my review of Candle Cafe’s Seitan Picatta with Lemon Caper Sauce! If you didn’t know, seitan is pronounced “say-tan” and is one of my favorite veggie words to say. I say it all the time, even if I’m eating tofu or tempeh. I just like the way it sounds… and it makes me giggle. Really, try saying “I’m eating a seitan sandwich” without giggling…

All right, well without further ado, here it is! Drumroll please… Continue reading

Green drank!

21 Jul

First off, I have to share this video. It’s from WildCare, a wildlife rehabilitation hospital in the Bay Area. This video is of orphaned Screech Owls (babies!) being weighed at the hospital. This Youtube site is totally precious, and they have other videos of baby ducklings and skunks too!

Here’s your daily dose of preciousness:

So, daily dose of preciousness is having technical difficulties. Click here to watch this cute video instead!

It’s a hot one, folks!

20 Jul

Oh boy, it is HOT today! I was watching the news this morning, and apparently it’s not just hot here, but around the country! 110 in Kansas City? Ouch! Currently I’m trying to muster up the energy to make the 1o minute trek to the gym, work out, and then hike back. It’s just so humid… but it must be done! However, blog first!

You might be wondering why I’m here, updating the blog at this time, instead of at my internship… well, short story is I woke up today with no hearing in my left ear! Good times! Longer story, genetics and I have a relationship, and genetics blessed me with “hard wax buildup” in my ears. Sounds gross, and it can be, but I have over-the-counter medicine for it and I haven’t lost hearing in forever… except for today. Continue reading

Some good news…

19 Jul

Yesterday at my internship, I got some really good advice and tips from the people I work with regarding jobs. One of the people I work with had me detail what I’ve been working on so far at the internship, and I told him what types of things I’d like to do in the future. I also told him that I was getting down on the whole job search task as well, as for most jobs now, I don’t even get a rejection letter back. After a while, not hearing ANYTHING from places you apply to gets pretty frustrating. Continue reading

Busy day!

18 Jul

Oh man, today was so crazy busy, and it’s not even over! I had my internship during the day, and tonight I go to my summer school class. In order to graduate early, 18 months instead of 2 years, I’m taking two summer school classes to fulfill some requirements.

That said, one of the things I wanted to comment was, you guessed it, food!! A few days ago, I tried the Candle Cafe frozen entree version of Mac-n-Cheese. For those of you who don’t know about Candle Cafe frozen entrees Continue reading

First blog post!

17 Jul

Yay, it’s my first blog post! Woohoo! Welcome to my blog, Will Work For Veggies. You can learn more in the ‘About Me’ page, but basically this blog is going to detail my life in grad school and my journey to becoming a healthier, employed person. Why the title ‘Will Work for Veggies’? Well, it basically comes down to the fact that I’ve applied for a TON of jobs in the past year, my first year as a graduate student. Almost all of them have some type of question that asks “Are you willing to travel?” My answer has always been yes, as I love traveling anyway, but now that a whole year has gone by and I haven’t really heard back from any place, my answer has become a more emphatic “YES, please hire me, I need to eat!”

Hence, the veggies part! Continue reading
